New songs, airplane guitars, and upcoming shows

dirt road, northern Indiana

Home for a few days after a fantastic tour, playing shows in PA, WI, IN, and IL. And writing new songs while finishing my taxes for last year. Thanks so much to everyone who came out, and to all those good folks who hosted us, in their venues and/or homes. Highway angels you are. Your kindness is never forgotten.

Getting on a plane this Saturday, to fly to Rhode Island–I’m making a return to the Roots Hoot house concert series in beautiful Peace Dale, RI, that night. Still hunting down a good guitar I can fly/tour with, as I ain’t gonna risk the loss of , or damage to, my beloved 50s Gibson ES-125 anymore. On Monday, Oct. 22,and a world away, I’ll be starting a week-long residency at the Hog’s Breath Saloon in Key West, FL. Paul Griffith, Lorne Rall, and I will be playing every day from 5-9pm EST. Check in on us via the hog cam if you just can’t make it down for the real thing!

Hey, Kevin, great seeing you again at Landhaven. My weekend was too crazy for me to make the Elk Creek show. Here’s some guitar info for you. A guy you may know, Patrick Sweany, does some selling for Dean guitars. They’re cheap and sturdy, at least according to his infomercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=si2e–SPdM4. Maybe that two-pick-up box he’s playing is a little boxier than you’re used to.

Another guitar I’ve heard good things about is the Godin5th Avenue Kingpin. This guy here does a direct comparison of the Godin and the Gibson ES 125, which for all it’s “tried and true” Gibson cachet (and, yeah, it does sound great), was still considered a budget archtop back in its day. The Godin line is a little more expensive than the Dean (~$600+ for this one), but is very well thought of. Living out in the sticks, I have not made it to a place yet where I can try one of these, but it’s on my list…

And, yes, you’re crazy to risk your vintage Gibsons in the baggage…

    Kevin,

Is there even the slightest chance of you coming over to grace our shores in the UK? Many here would love to see you.

    Brian

Kevin, really enjoyed you at Fitzgerald’s last night. I got to hear you at the Red Beat Records event in Nashville and was really excited for my husband to hear you last night. He’s a believer now. Thanks to you and your band and good old Fitzgerald’s.

I am really impressed. I first picked up on Kevin’s tunes on Down to The Well. That’s because I was exploring where Bo Ramsey was working. That was great but awhile back. The other day I picked up on the O Come Look at the Burning and Gloryland albums. Fantastic storytelling, tunesmithing and bringing together of the players I must say. Just plain great stuff that I want to hear over and over. I’ll make it a point to make it out to a show somewhere soon and see first hand. Thank you!
